It’s May and that means it’s one month until Emmy nominations are voted on. The month is jam-packed with premieres of premier content, all vying for their slots on the noms list, which comes out Tuesday, July 12.
That’s why viewers have such a wealth of programming (is there such a thing as too much wealth?) at their fingertips. Offerings include HBO’s limited series The Staircase, starring Oscar winner Colin Firth and Oscar nominee Toni Collette as a man and his murdered wife; its critically acclaimed Hacks, which returns for season two after Emmy wins for star Jean Smart and director Lucia Aniello; and limited series The Time Traveler’s Wife, based on the novel by Audrey Niffenegger and starring Theo James and Rose Leslie. Off HBO, there’s Hulu’s limited series Conversations With Friends, another adaptation of a Sally Rooney novel after the multiple-Emmy-nominated Normal People; Prime Video’s Night Sky, starring Oscar winners Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons as an older couple with a cosmic secret; Apple TV Plus’ the Essex Serpent starring Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes; and of course, the long-awaited return of Netflix’s Stranger Things for part one of its two-part penultimate fourth season.
Get comfy on your couches, TV viewers. There’s plenty to keep you busy this month.
