Miami-based 2C Creative fused together words, images and sounds drawn from the lives of violent criminals for HLN’s new series, Very Scary People.
The six-episode limited series profiles six of the most terrifying criminals from recent history — the Zodiac Killer, Charles Manson, Aileen Wuornos, John Wayne Gacy, Rev. Jim Jones and the Norcal Rapist. Each episode tells what each person did, how they got away with it for so long and how they were finally caught.
“We’ve worked with 2C Creative for many years and on many types of projects,” said Sean Houston, creative director, CNN Creative Marketing, in a statement. “Time was an issue on this campaign and we knew they would bring us a lot of ideas quickly and generate concepts that would help the show stand out in this space.”
2C’s goal was to find a new and captivating way to promote stories that many people feel they already know. To do this, the agency focused on actual soundbites and quotes from the criminals themselves, and the voices of these so-called monsters became the campaign’s theme.
“Going through the material for such a project was equal parts mesmerizing and horrifying, as you get a true look into the mindsets of these monsters,” said Marni Wagner, creative director, 2C, also in a statement. “We imagine viewers will have the same experience when they watch this enthralling series on HLN, and we’re thankful to CNN Creative Marketing for trusting us to help promote it.”
The show, hosted by Donnie Wahlberg, premieres Sunday, March 17, on HLN at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
