Imaginary Forces crafted this simple but intriguing title sequence for Hulu’s limited series, The Other Black Girl, which started streaming on Wednesday, September 13.
The sequence shows the two main characters – Nella (Sinclair Daneil) and Hazel (Ashleigh Murray) in silhouette – and it also hints that there’s something else happening beneath the surface. Nella works as an editorial assistant at Wagner Books and is excited when Hazel is hired so that she will no longer be the only Black woman working at Wagner. But Nella’s hopes for friendship with Hazel fade as Hazel’s star rises and Nella spirals out.
Based on the novel by Zakiya Dalila Harris, The Other Black Girl stars Daniel and Murray as well as Brittany Adebumola as Malaika; Hunter Parrish as Nella’s boyfriend, Owen; Bellamy Young as Wagner Books editor, Vera Parini; Eric McCormack as Wagner Books founder, Richard Wagner; and Garcelle Beauvais as author Diana Gordon.
Rashida Jones executive produces alongside Adam Fishbach, Harris, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan, and Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Author Harris and Jones co-wrote the pilot. Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey also serve as co-showrunners. The Other Black Girl is a Hulu original from Onyx Collective.
