Disney Plus released the first teaser trailer of its anticipated new series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling series of books. Above is the first glimpse of the series that Disney Plus produced with an assist from Los Angeles- and London-based agency Ignition Creative.
Starring Walker Scobell in the title role, Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the story of a group of so-called half-bloods – half God, half human. Percy and his friends Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri), a satyr disguised as a human, and Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries), a true daughter of Athena, all live together at Camp Half-Blood, which is run by Mr. D (short for the Greek god of wine, Dionysus, played by Jason Mansoukas). But their time at the camp comes to an end when they learn that Zeus is accusing Percy of having stolen his master lightning bolt. Now the three friends must set out to find the bolt, avoid Zeus’ wrath and restore order to Mt. Olympus, home of the gods.
Riordan and Jon Steinberg wrote the pilot, while James Bobin directs. Steinberg is overseeing the series with his producing partner Dan Shotz. Steinberg and Shotz serve as executive producers alongside Bobin, Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Anders Engström, Jet Wilkinson and The Gotham Group’s Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell and D.J. Goldberg.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is scheduled to be released in 2024.
