After years of working in Hollywood’s ever-churning PR machine, Amy Malin realized that her true passion lay in giving back.
“I had a personal shift years ago where I decided that what meant the most to me as a human being was to be able to use my time and talents and heart and put that towards feeling like I could do just a little bit of good everyday to make a difference,” Malin says in this episode of The Daily Brief Podcast. “When that shift happened in my life, I said, ‘I’m going to refocus my business and make this a priority.’ It had always been something I was doing—being actively involved in philanthropy and community service—on a personal level. I integrated it into my business and tried to convince our clients to come along for the ride.”
With her husband, Scott, she created Trueheart, a creative agency that specializes in “connecting celebrities with great causes, helping them raise millions of dollars and then creating global media campaigns that shine a spotlight on the incredible work that these deserving non-profits are doing,” says Malin.
For example, Amy and Scott dreamed up the online campaign #Superheroesforkids, starring such celebrities as Jack Black, Adam Devine, Nick Cannon, Mark Cuban, Pete Wentz and many more as part of an effort to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, an umbrella organization of 170 children’s hospitals in the U.S. and Canada.
“We love this organization. We’ve seen firsthand the miracles that are being made in local children’s hospitals,” says Malin.
The campaign is a series of 18 digital shorts starring celebrities and kids who are also patients at local children’s hospitals all around the country.
“Nick Cannon was literally rolling on the floor with the kids letting them climb all over him. Jack Black was just hilarious and has the biggest heart and gave so much of himself. Mark Cuban spent a half hour literally on his knees so he could be at the level of two of our adorable miracle kids,” says Malin.
Along those lines, Malin feels that gamers – from streamers to e-sports teams to gaming companies – can also use their power of reach and fandom for good. At PromaxGames in San Francisco on Wednesday, April 17, Malin will unveil her vision for using gaming for good.
Trueheart is already working with e-sports team FaZe Clan, which plays such games as Fortnite, Call of Duty and Counter Strike.
“These are guys that are passionate about helping kids like them, and making the world a better place,” says Malin.
